HRPPs and Assurances
A Human Research Protections Program (HRPP) is an institution's system of interdependent elements that implement policies and practices to protect human subjects involved in research. In accordance with DoD policy, institutions conducting or supporting exempt or non-exempt human subjects research will establish and maintain a formal HRPP.
A DoD Assurance for the Protection of Human Research Subjects is a commitment by an institution to comply with DoD, Federal, and other applicable regulatory requirements while engaging in non-exempt research with human subjects. AHRPO negotiates new DoD Assurances and renews existing DoD Assurances for the Department of the Army.
AHRPO may provide Component-level oversight of other components and activities as negotiated or directed.
Health Care and Medical Group institutions are generally covered under Assurances approved by the Defense Health Agency.
