Army Human Research Protections Office

About AHRPO

The Secretary of the Army tasks the Army Surgeon General with responsibility for the rights and welfare of DoD-affiliated personnel who take part in research. As a part of the Office of The Surgeon General, the Army Human Research Protections Office (AHRPO) serves to ensure that research conducted and/or supported by the Army adheres to applicable laws and regulations.

AHRPO’s services include educational outreach, policy development, and site visits to assess HRPPs. AHRPO ensures Army commanders and leaders comply with Federal, DoD, and Army regulations through compliance reviews and providing regulatory guidance tailored to the institution's research portfolio. AHRPO participates in DoD, Army, professional, and academic conferences, and provides educational outreach to non-DoD partners to facilitate HRPP reviews for DoD-supported HSR.
